The Education Amendment of 1972 (Title IX, 20 U.S.C. Sec. 1681, et seq.) states, "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."

Sexual Misconduct, including sexual assault, sexual harassment, intimate partner violence and stalking, are forms of gender discrimination prohibited by Title IX. In compliance with Title IX, Longwood University is dedicated to creating a community that encourages the reporting of all incidents of sexual misconduct and the prompt and fair resolution of sexual misconduct complaints.

Responsible Employees May Not Report Anonymously

If information pertaining to sexual misconduct, sexual assault, sexual harassment, discrimination, dating and relationship violence, or stalking, is disclosed to a Longwood faculty or staff member, they are required by law to notify the appropriate University officials. The Longwood faculty or staff member is designated as a Responsible Employee, cannot maintain complete confidentiality, and is required to report the information that has been shared. (All Longwood University employees are Responsible Employees, with the exception of our Confidential Reporting Resources; for example, the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) staff.)
